The MADW Sue Shelton White Scholarship

Join us for the announcement of our 2020 Sue Shelton White Scholarship Award Recipient! Jackson State Community College, Thursday, March 5th, 11:00 a.m.

On Thursday, March 5, the keynote speakers for the month will be Paula Casey and Jacque Hillman, founders of the Tennessee Woman Suffrage Heritage Trail. There will also be a special inaugural presentation of the Sue Shelton White Scholarship by the Madison Area Democratic Women (MADW). The event will be held in room 203 of the Jim Moss Center for Nursing from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Sue Shelton White, Jackson, TN native and suffragist, was instrumental in the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1929, giving U.S. women the constitutional right to vote.

In March 2020, the first-ever Madison Area Democratic Women Sue Shelton White Scholarship awarded $2,500 to a "non-traditional" woman student.

Submissions are closed for the 2020 contest. Thank you to all of the amazing applicants who applied. Submissions for the 2021 MADW Sue Shelton White Scholarship will be accepted beginning in late 2020. Check back here soon for more.
